JOHN BERNARD ROBERTSON, 82, of Gates Mills, passed away February 14, 2019 at his home in the presence of family members. Beloved husband of 60 years to Marlene (nee Skerl); dearest father of Kevin Robertson (Sharon), Suzanne Rodriguez (Rolando), Eric Robertson (Linda) and Renee Taylor (Jim); cherished grandfather of Laura, Linda, Bryanna, Catherine, Margo and Matthew. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clare Robertson; and siblings, Mary, Clare and Andrew.
John was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 22, 1936. He was the proud beneficiary of many years of Catholic education, attending St. Agnes and St. Thomas Aquinas Grade Schools, Cathedral Latin High School (Class of 1954), John Carroll University (Class of 1958), and University of Detroit-Mercy Law School (Class of 1961).
John served his country as the Cadet Commander of his ROTC detachment at John Carroll, completed Armored Officers' training in Fort Knox, KY as a First Lieutenant, graduated in 1962 from the United States Army Judge Advocate General School at the University of Virginia, and began his legal career as a member of the JAG Corps at Fort Ord, CA, from which he was discharged as Captain in 1964.
John devoted 50 years of his life to the private practice of law and was an enthusiastic member of the Cleveland and Ohio State Bar Associations and the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys. In addition to chairing numerous committees, serving on boards, and lecturing frequently at legal conferences, he was OACTA president in 1988 and OSBA president in 1996. For over three decades (1970-2004), John also shared his love of the law with future attorneys as an adjunct faculty member of the John Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University.

Funeral Mass Friday, February 22, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10:30 a.m. (PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH.) Interment Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the SCHULTE & MAHON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 5252 MAYFIELD RD., LYNDHURST (BETWEEN RICHMOND AND BRAINARD) THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21 FROM 2 TO 6 P.M.
