THOMAS E. McCARTHY, age 90. Beloved husband of 63 years to Margarete (nee Lovell); dear father of Michael (Kathy) of Chicago, Patrick, Suzanne Slavin (Jeffrey), Thomas Jr. (Robert Dello Russo) of Boston, Mary Anne Cotton (Rick) of Bethesda, MD and the late Eileen; cherished grandfather of John, Will, Anne, Margaret, Kayla and Ryan McCarthy, Eileen, Jonathan and Michael Slavin and Flynn Cotton; fond brother of Helen, Sr. Rita, William, Maureen and the late John Jr., Russell, Robert and Donald; loving uncle and friend to many. As a combat Marine, Tom was stationed in the Pacific Theater for five years and was in Nagasaki, Japan for 18 months during the reconstruction period. After the war, he attended Michigan State University where he played hockey. Tom was from Boston but called Cleveland Heights his home for over 55 years. In lieu of flowers, contributions suggested to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110. Funeral Mass Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Church of Communion of Saints Parish. Interment Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends AT THE CHURCH FROM 9:30 A.M. UNTIL MASS TIME.
