WALTER STANLEY NOSAL, born January 30, 1918, lived fully for 97 years, went home to be with the Lord and his bride of 71 years, Ruth, on July 12, 2015. Ruth passed away on November 18, 2014...he missed her so. Dearest father of Pat Modica, Jean O'Toole, Sally Stack (husband Edward), Connie Hawke (husband William), Kathy Ganzhorn (husband Donald) and Robert Nosal (wife Joan) who were blessed by his love, guidance, and faithfulness to them. Loving Pop-Pop to 23 grandchildren: David, Jamie, Matthew, Joseph, Shannon, Gregory, Colleen, Heather, Justin, Philip, Megan, Lindsay, Kyle, Ashley, Kelsey, Nathan, Amber, Calli, Bayley, Quinn, Caitlin, Alex and Liam; 43 great-grandchildren: Danielle, Natalie, Michael, Brenden, Louis, Tyler, Samantha, Jack, Grayson, Jace, Martin, Owen, Maura, Nicholas, Gianna, Morgan, Finnegan, Faylinn, Austin, Ashley, Sienna, Dylan, Phillip, Grace, Porter, Hannah Kate, Braeden, Ethan, Samantha, Adelaide, Damien, Vincent, Cecilia, Peyton, Brady, Lucy, Lexi, Carli, Anthony, Loralei, Violet, Beau, Scarlett; and one great-great grandchild, Naomi. Each looked forward to their Pop-Pop's loving smile, his probing question about what they were "up to", and the certainty of a birthday card delivered on time every year to assure each one he was thinking of them. And the $20 bill. Dr. Nosal spent 66 years at John Carroll University leading, teaching, counseling and inspiring many young (and old) students, faculty, staff, and priests to reach their highest potential. He was a pioneer in counseling and helped thousands of individuals understand their strengths and aptitudes, pointing them toward a path of success. He earned his Master's and Doctorate degrees from George Washington University and he received many awards over the years, including Distinguished Faculty Award in 1977 and an honorary Doctor of Laws in 1994. In his journey from "Jerome to Jerusalem via Rome", those who had the privilege of his friendship, tutelage, or acquaintance, know the influence he had on their life, teaching them that every person has a role in life to play and a responsibility to seek after it. Funeral Mass Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Gesu Church, 2470 Miramar Blvd., University Heights. (PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH.) Interment All Souls Cemetery.
