LORETTA J. CURRAN (nee Cappiello), beloved wife of Christopher M. Curran and loving mother of Margaret and Thomas Curran, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, at University Hospitals in Cleveland, OH.
Born seven weeks premature in Rockland County, NY, on June 27, 1977, Loretta seemingly couldn't wait to enter the world. When she did, her five siblings surrounded her with the same love they learned from their parents. She loved to draw, color and play board games, often challenging anyone who would play.
In 1986, the family moved to Cincinnati, OH, where Loretta attended St. Mary School in Hyde Park and learned to play soccer. She graduated from Summit Country Day School in 1995. Loretta ran on the track team and also performed in "Arsenic and Old Lace". And like everyone in her family, she loved to watch baseball.
Loretta spent a semester of college studying in Rome, Italy and graduated with a literature degree from William Smith College in 1999. She went on to teach Language Arts at Mercy Montessori School in Cincinnati.
It was while they were working at LaRosa's Pizza in Hyde Park that she and Chris first fell in love. Higher education called, and Loretta moved to Cleveland to attend graduate school, and Chris soon followed. The two married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel at Summit on August 9, 2008. Eventually Loretta earned her master's degree in education from Xavier University and went on to teach Language Arts at Laurel School in Shaker Heights, OH.
The desire to be a mother always was strong with Loretta, whose loving arms wrapped themselves around two children – Margaret, born in July 2011, and Tommy, born in June 2014. Loretta and Chris' love for and dedication to their children will be an unbreakable spiritual bond they will share for eternity.
Diagnosed with cancer in August 2014, Loretta waged a courageous and impassioned battle, undergoing treatments and enduring illness but never wavering from the fight, continuing to care for her children in any way she could. Her glowing smile and endearing sense of humor will forever remain embedded in the memories of those who survive. Among them are:
Husband Christopher and children Margaret and Thomas, of Cleveland Heights, OH; parents Vincent P. and Carol A. (nee Kroll) Cappiello Sr. of Cincinnati, OH; parents-in-law Thomas T. and Kathleen (nee Wehby) Curran of Cincinnati, OH; uncle John and aunt Muriel Kroll of Pembroke Pines, FL; cherished sisters Susan M. D'Auria (Stephen) of Highland Mills, NY, and Marjorie A. Williams of Denver, CO, and brothers Paul E. Cappiello (Carolyn) of Louisville, KY, John J. Cappiello (Jean) of Nanuet, NY, and Vincent P. Cappiello Jr. (Lisa) of Cody, WY; sister-in-law Kari E. Curran (Michael Miller) of Longs, SC and Kevin T. Curran (Shannon) of Cincinnati, OH.
She was the fond aunt of many nieces and nephews: Matthew and Sean D'Auria; Daniel and Matthew Williams; Christopher Cappiello; Kayla and Kristin Cappiello; Gabriella, Sara and Magdalena Cappiello; Noah and Samuel Miller; and Kennedy Curran.
Of Loretta, all who knew her would agree she always put the needs of others before her own. She inspired many students, touched countless lives and lived life to the very fullest, even to her final breath.
Funeral Mass will be Monday, October 26, 2015, at Church of the Gesu at 11:30 a.m. at 2470 Miramar Blvd., University Heights, OH 44118. Interment at a later date. The family will receive friends in McAuley Hall immediately following the Mass.
