LOIS MARILYN (HUMMER) HOPKINS, beloved wife of the late William P. Hopkins, passed away August 6, 2016, age 92.
Daughter of Raymond and Lenore Hummer, sister of Harlan E. Hummer (deceased), Carol V. Brady, and Ronald G. Hummer (deceased); survived also by sisters-in-law Therese Hummer, Nancy Hummer, Catherine Hopkins, Eileen Corrigan and Mary Vetromille.
Mother of 12: Patricia (H. Michael Mears), Michael (Mary Kay), Mary (Frederick Gassert), William R. (Concepcion), Kathleen (deceased), Ann (Laurence Stratton), John (Michael Yezzi), Therese (Thomas Thompson), Lois E. (David Jessen), Joseph (Kristin), Robert (Lisa), James (Margaret), Virginia (Victoria Carlson).
Grandmother of 23: Alissa Mears (Benjamin Stein), Alexander Mears (Diana), Brian Hopkins (Erin), Patrick Hopkins, Maeve Hopkins (Anne), William Gassert, Alice Gassert, Philip Hopkins (Jessie Christiansen), Isabel Hopkins, Catherine Stratton, Hannah Stratton, Andrew Hopkins, Olivia Jessen, Tyler Jessen, David Hopkins (deceased), Marie Hopkins, Laura Hopkins, Raymond Hopkins, James Hopkins, Andrew Hopkins, Gregory Hopkins, Clare Hopkins, and Madelyn Hopkins.
Great grandmother to nine: Augustus and Rafe Stein, Hunter Mears, Nora, Michael and Miller Hopkins, Clara Christiansen and Hugo Hopkins, and Leo Hopkins.
Born and raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio, graduate of Lourdes Academy and Ursuline College (magna cum laude, 1946). Awarded the Ursuline College Amadeus Rappe Award for distinguished alumna in 1984. Leadership in St. Ann's and Gesu parish women's guilds; the Christ Child Society; and Plymouth Church, Christ Child, St. Ann's and Gesu bridge groups. Worked in the Beaumont School Guidance Department from 1984 – 1991.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Lois' name be made to Beaumont School or Ursuline College.
Funeral Mass Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Gesu Catholic Church, 2470 Miramar Boulevard, University Heights, Ohio. Interment All Souls Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the SCHULTE & MAHON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 5252 MAYFIELD RD., LYNDHURST (BETWEEN RICHMOND AND BRAINARD) TUESDAY 4-7 P.M.
